Melissa Gohman and the Paramount Team: Jared Czech, Amanda Hegreberg, Heidi Henderson, Heather Allen
The Paramount Arts Resource Trust is a non-profit community arts center; promoting a learning experience for artists of all ages and abilities. One goal of the Paramount Visual Arts Center is to utilize the facilities and staff to collaborate with artists to design and produce ceramic tile. As the Visual Arts director, I lead my staff of the Paramount Visual Arts Center through projects, providing employment and learning opportunities for you artists.
Something Truly Unique
Utilizing VAC facilities and our trained, professional staff, you can collaborate with our team of artists to design something truly unique and support the arts in Central Minnesota.
Donor Wall Mural
East Side Boys and Girls Club; St. Cloud
Working with other non-profit organizations in Central Minnesota, we are able to partner and provide donor walls for theme, creating a unique and custom donor wall. For the Boys and Girls Club Donor Wall, we utilized the cobblestone floor from the original Boys and Girls Club to create a path to the new club.
Experience designing, fabricating, or coordinating fabrications of, public art
Myself, and the team, have created several public tile installations. The first project was a replication of historic tile for replacement on the exterior of the 1921 Paramount Theatre in 2007. In 2008, we created and installed four public ceramic tile murals for the St. Cloud Fire Department Station #2 (Veteran's Station) and Station #5 (River Bluffs).
Firefighters' Silhouette
Station #5; St. Cloud, MN; 2008
In the truck bay at River Bluffs, we created this mural that measures nine feet long by four feet tall. We took photos of the firefighters at Station #5 and created a dramatic scene of fire.

Area of Expertise
Melissa holds a BFA and MA in ceramics and drawing; and has been specializing in tile work for the past several years. As the Visual Arts Director at the Paramount since 1998, and a ceramic artist and instructor, I have had several opportunities in the past few years to create commissioned tile for public display. My functional and sculptural ceramic pieces have been commissioned for numerous private collections and businesses over the past 15 years. My specialization is working with clients to determine their needs and discover creative and functional solutions for their specific needs.
The following murals are further examples of our work.
River Bluffs
Station #5; St. Cloud, MN; 2008
This mural was based on the oxbow in the river. We used topographical maps and the environmental studies done at the site. We included native plants and animals, including Blanding Turtle, Red Shouldered Hawk and Globlins Ferns, that are species of concern found in the park.
West House
Station #2; St. Cloud, MN; 2008
This mural is from the historical West House Station, located in downtown St. Cloud. The image was taken from a photo found at the Stearns County Historic Society.
Miller Castle
Donor Wall for the Boy Scouts
Our most recent project was the Donor Wall for the Boy Scouts, Miller Castle; it has since been completed. We brainstormed with Dave Trehey and Bruce Gohman to come up with a theme. I then designed the wall in regards to location and theme. The family crest information was researched and we based the design on those individual family crests. As new names are added, we continue to provide support and new tiles.
