Position: Center Ceramics Studio ManagerType: Part Time
Ceramics Studio Manager is responsible for the oversight of daily operations of the Visual Arts Center Ceramics studio. This is a permanent part-time position with hours ranging from 25-35 hours per week requiring some nights and weekends.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
*load and fire electric, raku and gas kilns
*pug clay
*mix glazes
*assist instructors in class preparation
*maintain materials inventory including ceramic clays and glazes
*maintain equipment in good working order
*assist in production of tile projects.
*maintain good relations and customer service with studio users
*materials inventory and maintenance
*Manage subordinate staff and student workers
In all activities, the ceramics studio manger is responsible for ensuring that the student workers and staff are functioning at a high professional level.
Education/Experience
Bachelors or Associate Degree in ceramic arts and/or equivalent experience required. Three to five years of professional or student experience in the ceramics studio is required. Three to five years of professional or student teaching experience in studio arts or arts management is desirable.
Skills/Abilities:1. Working knowledge of the operation and functions of ceramics equipment; electric kilns, gas kiln, pug mill, etc.;
2. Ability to manage detail and multi-task;
3. Excellent follow-through and attention to detail;
4. Ability to deal effectively with a variety of personalities and skill levels;
5. Ability to meet the public in an informed, assertive and hospitable manner;
6. Sound decision-making ability;
7. Computer skills, including Microsoft office;
8. Instructional and teaching skills; ability to train and work with student employees;
9. Supervisory skills; ability to supervise student employees in their tasks, allowing them to learn by doing.
Physical abilities: 1. A steady energy level and a calm demeanor;
2. Ability to withstand long hours of concentrated physical activity; repeated lifting of 50lb boxes of clay
3. Ability to lift and move 30lb tables;
4. Ability to withstand long and repeated hours of cleaning including operation of floor scrubber;
5. Physical limitations cannot totally hinder the ability to perform tasks.
